Temperature settings aren't a one-size-fits-all when it comes to batteries. What voltage is best for your wax or oil depends on a number of factors, including the type of material, its thickness, how much of it you still have, and how long you plan to use it.
To help you find your way through all of these options, we've put together some tips on how to find the best temperature for your vaping session while keeping your battery alive for as long as possible. The Ooze rule of thumb states that oil should be heated at a lower temperature than wax or thick concentrates.
In order to get the most out of our vape pens, which can be used with a wide variety of substances, you need to do some careful preparation work. Maintaining a consistent temperature range is important whether you're using pre-filled oil cartridges or wax concentrates with an atomizer.
Set your pen to 2.0V for pre-filled oil cartridges.
Because the material in pre-filled 510 thread cartridges is thinner and easier to heat, it needs to be heated at lower temperatures. We suggest starting at the lowest voltage possible, which for our newest Twist Slim Pen 2.0 is 2.0V and moving up to the next level of voltage if that doesn't give you enough of a hit.Â
Years of testing have taught us that the original Twist Slim Pen's voltage range of 3.3V to 4.7V isn't ideal for heating oil, and that a more suitable range is 2.0V to 4.0V. Lowering the voltage will not only extend the life of your pen, but also make the terpenes taste more like dabs. The lower the temperature, the less vapor will be produced, but it doesn't mean the high will be any weaker.
If you want to keep your pen in working order for as long as possible, it's best to keep the temperature as low as possible so you don't damage the cartridge's delicate coil. If you use the coil on the maximum setting too often, you risk burning it, which might lead to burnt flavors in your hits. If you want to make a film with a massive cloud, you can take one or two hits at the highest level without damaging the pen.
Wax dabs require a voltage setting of 4.0V 4.3V on your vape pen.
Because of its thick consistency, wax requires higher temperatures to melt. When you're ready to vape, adjust the voltage to 4.0V and pour the dab into your atomizer or attachment. When you take a hit, you can count on a thick cloud and distinct terpene flavors. If you're still unable to achieve a hit at 4.0V, try increasing it to 4.3V for one cycle or activating preheat mode by pressing and holding the button for a second. However, if your dab has a burnt flavor, you may want to reduce the amount used.
Take note of your exhale; if you don't feel like you got a good hit, increase the intensity slightly and try again. You know what to do if it was too big for you.
Since wax is heavier and its consistency tends to change, using it in vape pens might be more of a "trial and error" process than using oil. Keep in mind that every time you purchase a new batch of wax, some types may require more heat to begin rolling.
Vape pens are a great alternative to burning CBD oil or marijuana flower because they are easy to use, easy to clean, portable, and their vapor doesn't smell bad. If you just want a quick hit, you can get it with a vape pen by pressing a button. You don't have to grind and pack a piece.
Our Slim Twist pens are made to take as little time to set up as possible, but changing the temperature settings can still change how you feel. If you use wax, don't be afraid to turn up the heat a bit. If you use oil or a thinner concentrate, your pen should be ready to go right out of the box.
Battery-saving advice from the pros
- To prevent your battery from draining when you're not using it, follow these simple steps:
The belief that cycling the power supply by turning it on and off between uses will cause it to drain faster is unfounded. In fact, it's the other way around! It is possible to extend the time between charges by ensuring that the battery is allowed to fully recharge during the hours between hits.
This will protect your battery so you can go longer in between charges, and it will also keep the heat source from going off by accident. If you leave the battery on and place the device in your pocket, for instance, your wallet or keys can accidentally trigger the device. An unfavorable viewpoint is all it takes.
- Make use of the USB Smart Charger that is provided.
Other USB chargers can easily overcharge your battery, which weakens the cells inside over time. This is because other chargers keep charging the battery even after it's full. Most people charge their pens overnight, which can easily drain the battery in a few months. When the battery is fully charged, the Smart Charger stops sending power to it on its own.
- Avoid overusing Prep Mode.
To use the lower-voltage preheat or prep mode to remove stubborn clogs from the cartridge, all you need to do is double-click the power button. Less effort will be required, and your lungs will appreciate the relief.
Despite widespread opinion, this feature is not ideal for warming up a dab. To fast heat and evaporate a dab, full power voltage must be used, whereas the prep mode is more like a slow and steady heat cycle. However, if your oil has a little thicker consistency, you may need to run one cycle in prep mode before you can return to the lowest voltage setting.
Remember the Ooze rule of thumb when setting up your vape battery, no matter what material you're using. If you need to, start low and work your way up. If you want to make a big cloud for a video, you can crank up the voltage, but only for one or two hits. If your default temperature is as low as possible, your battery will work well for a much longer time. Do it once in a while for Instagram, but don't do it all the time because it could hurt the life of your pen and your throat.
